On September 28, 2020, the Korean Council and global citizens, including the German organization Korea Verband, installed the Statue of Peace "Ari" in Berlin as a symbol of justice and peace. Since May 2024, when the Mayor of Berlin suggested the removal of the Statue of Peace, people worldwide have united to prevent its demolition. ย
To support the protection of "Ari," the Korean Council has provided financial support to Korea Verband. In response, Korea Verband has been leading various campaigns, including one-person protests in front of the statue, an online petition, and the project 'ByeolmuriโSit next to Ari', all aimed at preserving the Statue of Peace. ย
The Statue of Peace is a testament to the courage of survivors who broke the silence and transformed from victims into human rights activists. As a universal symbol of women's rights, it raises awareness of wartime sexual violence, which continues in various parts of the world, and stands as a global commitment to ensuring that atrocities never repeat.
