National Assembly and Civil Society Hold Joint Press Conference, Deliver Over 24,000 Signatures
On the morning of April 30 at 9:30 AM, a joint press conference was held in front of the main building of the National Assembly, where participants strongly called for the appointment of a special prosecutor to investigate and punish those responsible for war-inciting acts of insurrection and crimes against the state.

The event followed the April 25 reintroduction of the Special Prosecutor Act on Insurrection by the five opposition parties, which includes charges related to the unauthorized infiltration of North Korean drones and other violations of national security laws.
Previously, the Border Area Joint Conference and the Korean Alliance for Self-Reliant Reunification and Peace filed criminal complaints on December 26, 2023, against President Yoon Suk-yeol, National Security Office Director Kim Yong-hyun, and others, accusing them of inciting war and committing crimes against the state. In support of this action, a nationwide petition campaign gathered 24,123 signatures demanding a thorough investigation and punishment.

Following the press conference, civil society representatives met with Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Lee Hak-young and formally delivered the petition. They emphasized the urgent need to hold those responsible accountable to ensure peace and prevent such actions from happening again.
The Korean Council continues to lead the fight to hold accountable those who have endangered citizens’ lives through war-mongering, and to build a peaceful world where such acts are never repeated.
