Peace Culture Festival to Stop the Demolition of Dongducheon's Old STD Management Center

“Peace is the Future!” Citizens Rally to Preserve History and Demand Justice

On April 26, the Korean Council participated in the Peace Culture Festival titled “Peace is the Future!” held at the park in front of Jihaeng Station in Dongducheon. The event was organized to raise awareness and build solidarity to stop the demolition of  Dongducheon's Old STD Management Center, a site symbolic of state violence against women during the U.S. military presence in Korea.

The festival featured a variety of activities, including an exhibition detailing the ongoing struggle to protect the site, as well as booths offering caricatures, quizzes, and interactive experiences. Citizens from Dongducheon and beyond gave powerful speeches of solidarity, and the event included live performances and cultural programs throughout the day.

Despite the long program, the energy and determination of the participants remained high. The festival culminated in a peace march through the Jihaeng Station area, where citizens walked together in a show of unity and resistance.

As a member of the Joint Committee to Stop Dongducheon's Old STD Management Center,  the Korean Council took the lead in the march, raising our voice against state violence, sexual exploitation, militarism, and the history of military sexual slavery. We reaffirmed our commitment to peace, women's rights, and historical justice.
