On June 15, the Korean Council participated in the 34th Memorial Ceremony for Martyrs of Democracy/People. Four victims of the Japanese military sexual slavery —Kim Hak-soon, Kang Deok-kyung, Kim Bok-dong, and Song Shin-do—who later became leading women’s rights activists, have been enshrined as martyrs. This year, Bae Bong-gi was newly enshrined.

The Korean Council carried the portraits of Kim Hak-soon and Kang Deok-kyung close to their hearts during the memorial march and respectfully placed the photographs at the altar.

The Korean Council remembers those who courageously broke the silence to share their experiences and devoted their lives to ensuring that such injustices never happen again. We will continue to carry on their legacy and move forward in the pursuit of historical justice.
