International Symposium “Implications of the Korean Court Ruling of ‘Comfort Women’: State Immunity and Victim’s Rights to Justice”


On February 29th, the Korean Council, MINBYUN, Civil Solidarity for Historical Justice and Peaceful Relationship between Korea and Japan, Research Network on Japanese Military Sexual Slavery, Civic Group INDEPENDENCE, alongside National Assembly members Hong Ihk-Pyo, Kim Sang-Hee, Nam In-Soon, and Kim Hong-Gul, convened an international symposium titled "Implications of the Korean Court Ruling on 'Comfort Women': State Immunity and Victims' Rights to Justice."

This international symposium delved into the developments of the lawsuit within/outside Korea and provided a comprehensive analysis of the recent Korean court ruling. Furthermore, it delved into the far-reaching implications of the ruling, examining the boundaries of state immunity and drawing insights from customary international law cases related to sovereign immunity. The symposium offered a multifaceted exploration of the ruling's ramifications from diverse perspectives.
