"On September 28, activists from the Korean Council participated in two protests.
The first was the National Protest for the Resignation of the Yoon Suk-yeol Administration, and the second was the Citizen’s Festival for 'Veto Power OUT, Yoon Suk-yeol OUT'. Notably, the Citizen’s Festival was co-organized by the Civil Solidarity for Historical Justice and Peaceful Relationship between Korea and Japan, where the Korean Council is included.
The National Protest for the Resignation of the Yoon Suk-yeol Administration took place in Seoul, bringing together citizens from all fields of life—workers, farmers, the poverty, and students. Participants voiced their frustration with the Yoon administration, which they accused of distorting and denying history, ruining the livelihood of people, and driving the Korean Peninsula toward the threat of war. After the protest, participants marched to the Presidential Office in Yongsan. However, despite prior official notification, the police blocked the march and disrupted the protest by confiscating a prop prepared for a performance.
At the Citizen’s Festival for 'Veto Power OUT, Yoon Suk-yeol OUT,‘ the focus was on condemning the Yoon administration for its frequent use of veto power. As of September 28, the Yoon administration had exercised its veto on 21 legislative bills. Through speeches by activists from various sectors, the audience learned about the challenges caused by the president’s vetoes on laws that urgently need to be enacted. There was a deep sense of empathy with these struggles. The people of this country reject a president who uses veto power out of personal stubbornness, plunging the nation into chaos."
