The Japanese government is planning to allow TEPCO (The Tokyo Electric Power Company) to release 1.3 million tons of radioactive contaminated water from Fukushima nuclear meltdown into the ocean.
They are constructing an underwater tunnel to divert the contaminated water into the ocean, starting this summer. Within 7 months, it will reach Korea and China, and within a maximum of 3 years, it will reach the Pacific Ocean. Despite the Japanese government claiming the treated water is safe to drink, it raises the question: why not utilize it for drinking or other purposes instead of dumping it in the ocean?
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) should inspect the treated water, but concerns arise about its independence as an organization, as it seems more inclined to promote nuclear power than to prioritize environmental and health issues.
Even the fishermen in Fukushima oppose the release of the contaminated water, and fish and seafood from Fukushima are not being sold in Japan. Nevertheless, Japan is seeking the lifting of import bans by neighboring countries.
Alarming statistics show that 4% of infants in and around Fukushima have developed thyroid cancer. This crisis will eventually prevent us from consuming sea salt, posing significant consequences for all countries, people, living beings, and future generations. It is a global catastrophe!
Despite the severity of the situation, the Japanese media remains silent, and even at the G7 summit in May 2023, this issue was not adequately addressed.
Therefore, the people of Fukushima urgently appeal to foreign media and global citizens to protest against this harmful action. It is not too late!
