Participation in the International Conference: “Archives and Memory for Conflict Reconciliation and Peacebuilding in Southeast Asia”

From May 27 to 28, 2025, the War and Women’s Human Rights Museum participated in the international conference titled “Archives and Memory for Conflict Reconciliation and Peacebuilding in Southeast Asia,” held at the International Centre for Documentary Heritage (ICDH) in Cheongju. The conference was co-hosted by the UNESCO Jakarta Office and ICDH, bringing together public memory institutions from six countries including Korea, Timor-Leste, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines.

From Korea, the Jeju 4.3 Peace Foundation, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission Republic of Korea, and the Korea Democracy Foundation participated. The War and Women’s Human Rights Museum was the only civil society institution invited.

On the second day, in the final session of the conference, LEE, Na-Young, Chairperson of the Korean Council, gave a presentation on “The Role of Archives to Resolve the Issue of Japanese Military Sexual Slavery.”

It was a meaningful opportunity to explore the possibilities of reconciliation and peacebuilding through archives alongside diverse memory institutions across Southeast Asia. We hope that this valuable dialogue will continue and contribute to building a peaceful future for Asia.
