January 28 is the seventh year since the passing of the late Kim Bok-dong. It is also the seventh year of the passing of another victim, the late Lee ○○, who passed away on the same day. To honor the memory of the two halmonis, as well as other victims, activists from the Korean Council visited the National Cemetery for Overseas Koreans in Cheonan on January 26.

To commemorate them,  the activists prepared a simple memorial rite, offering pears, apples, dried persimmons, chestnuts, dried pollack, and a glass of liquor to the two grandmothers. They paid their respects with bows and shared words of greeting, asking for strength and support so that the Korean Council may continue its work with renewed determination in 2026. They also offered a glass of liquor and paid their respects to Lee Ok-seon halmoni, who passed away in 2025 and now rests at the cemetery.

The activists visited the gravesites and the columbarium where other halmonis are laid to rest, placing a single flower at each site, observing a moment of silence, and remembering their lives and struggles. In 2026 as well, the Korean Council will continue to visit the surviving victims, closely attend to their health and daily lives, and work diligently to restore the human rights and dignity of halmonis.
