Although the issue of Kijichon women is a case of collective violations of women’s human rights caused by state violence, no proper nationwide investigation has ever been conducted. At the press conference, participants called on the 3rd Truth and Reconciliation Commission to launch a state-level ex officio investigation into the issue. The history of the state exploiting women’s bodies must never be repeated. The Korean Council will continue to stand in solidarity until the state and the U.S. military in Korea fulfill their responsibilities for the issue of Kijichon women, and until the victim-survivors recover their dignity and rights.
