💨Storming Peace: Where Our Winds of Hope Meet💨
August 14, 2026 marks the 14th International Memorial Day for Japanese Military Comfort Women”. In 1991, Kim Hak-Soon became living proof by standing in front of perpetrators who denied their crimes, claiming there was no evidence.Her voice awakened countless victims of the Japanese military sexual slavery across the Asia-Pacific and reverberated throughout the world, connecting into a powerful chain of solidarity and hope for change. To commemorate Kim Hak-Soon’s first public testimony, the 11th Asian Solidarity Conference in 2012 designated 14 August as the International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women.” It is to honor the strength and courage of the victim-survivors, who not only fought for an official apology and legal reparations from the Japanese government but also laid the foundation for international human rights norms on sexual violence in conflict.
This year, in commemoration of the 14th International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women”, the Korean Council is organising a series of events under the theme “Storming Peace: Where Our Winds of Hope Meet”. We honour and remember the courage of the Japanese military sexual slavery victim-survivors. As their steadfast hopes meet our powerful voices, we come together to reaffirm our commitment to building a more peaceful world.

We are promoting various events held by civic organisations in Korea and abroad under the banner of the “International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women’ Global Action.”
Participating organizations will also be introduced as co-hosting groups at Wednesday Demonstration for the International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women” to be held on 12 August.

- By taking part in any one of the three actions below, your organisation will automatically be counted as a co-organiser of the Wednesday Demonstration on 12 August.
- The Global Action only accepts participation from organistations, not individuals.
- Please submit the Global Action Participation Googld Form by Monday, 10 August!

1) Organise Events for the 13th Week of the International Memorial Day for Japanese Military "Comfort Women" (*Memorial Week: 1st August - 14th August)
For archiving purposes, please share any events you are planning during Memorial Week! This information will be included in the press release for the Wednesday Demonstration for the International Memorial Day for Japanese Military “Comfort Women”.
2) Endorsing as a co-organiser of the Wednesday Demonstration for the 13th International Memorial Day for Japanese Military "Comfort Women"
Please endorse as a co-organisation for the Wednesday Demonstration, scheduled for 12 August. Endorsement is welcome even if you are not hosting your own event.
3) Submit a Solidarity Message Video
- Please send a short solidarity video(around 10 seconds) that includes the following phrase:
"My hope is ( )." (e.g. My hope is a peaceful world free from discrimination and hatred.)
- Record in horizontal mode using a mobile phone and send the video to info@womenandwar.net by Wednesday, 10 August. No editing is required.
- The submitted videos will be featured during the Wednesday Demonstration for the 14th International Memorial Day for Japanese Military "Comfort Women" and the Butterfly Festival.
