At 11 a.m. on June 23, the Korean Council participated in a press briefing in front of the Presidential Office in Yongsan regarding a meeting between Vietnam War civilian massacre survivors and presidential officials. Two survivors, Nguyễn Thị Thanh from Phong Nhi and another from Hà My village, visited Korea to submit petitions and their grievances, becoming the first survivors to do so directly.
The Civil Society Network for a Just Resolution of the Vietnam War, including the Korea-Vietnam Peace Foundation, submitted a petition with 10,541 signatures urging the new administration to acknowledge the massacres through a truth investigation officially, withdraw the state appeal in the lawsuit, and establish an independent investigative body.
The Korean Council has been supporting Vietnamese survivors of sexual violence committed by Korean troops during the war through the Butterfly Fund, and continues to collaborate closely with the Korea-Vietnam Peace Foundation. We stand in solidarity with the survivors and their families in their fight for truth, justice, and human rights in the face of wartime massacres and sexual violence.
