At the Korean Council booth, activities included making placards for historical justice and taking photos with the Statue of Peace. The booth welcomed a diverse range of participants, including activists from Japan advocating against discrimination toward Korean schools and the Koreans in Japan, and promoting peace. International visitors joined as well, reflecting on the significance of Liberation Day and the solidarity between Korea and Palestine, inspired by keyrings sent from the Palestine Women Trauma Healing Center. One Japanese visitor, witnessing recent attacks on the Statue of Peace by historical denialists, expressed concern over the rise of right-wing extremism and historical denial in both Korea and Japan. The event provided a meaningful opportunity for global citizens to connect and share solidarity.

Earlier, the 8.15 Women’s Rally for Peace, Sovereignty, and Historical Justice featured remarks by Lee Na-young, the Chair of the Korean Council, and a dance performance by the Korean Council’s group, Peace Road Human Fighter. The rally highlighted women-led movements that restored democratic governance while remembering women who remain unliberated even 80 years after Korea’s independence. Participants called for the resolution of the Japanese military sexual slavery issue, the protection of women’s rights, and the realization of historical justice.
