On July 16, A launch ceremony and forum were held at the National Assembly’s Second Conference Room to inaugurate the Preparatory Committee for the 80th Anniversary Memorial of Korean Victims of the Hiroshima Atomic Bombing. The Korean Council has joined the committee, which brings together religious and civic groups in Korea, to prepare for the memorial event scheduled to take place in Hiroshima this August.
The launch and forum shed light on the history of Korean victims who endured the triple suffering of forced mobilization, atomic bomb damage, and decades of neglect. Building on this recognition, the event aimed to foster international solidarity for peace and reconciliation.
Lee Na-young, the chair of the Korean Council, also offered brief greetings at the event. Emphasizing the collective responsibility to remember and honor the victims, she pledged that the Korean Council would actively take part in future initiatives, beginning with the August visit to Japan.
