On July 19, the Korean Council joined the Citizens’ March with Workers, held on July 19 in Euljiro, central Seoul, to stand in solidarity with labor and civic movements.
The march, organized by the Korean Peace Solidarity for Sovereignty and Reunificatione, National People’s Action, and the Joint Action Against Trump’s Threats (Preparatory Committee), began at Euljiro Entrance (in front of Gwangju Bank, International Building) and continued through the Bank of Korea, Hoehyeon Intersection, before concluding at the sit-in protest site in front of the Sejong Hotel.
At the closing rally, participants raised chants of encouragement for Ko Jin-soo, head of the Sejong Hotel branch union, who has been carrying out a high-altitude protest atop the hotel building.
The march highlighted urgent calls to amend Articles 2 and 3 of the Labor Union Act to guarantee the rights of subcontracted and precarious workers, and to repair the damage to labor rights caused under the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. The Korean Council reaffirmed its commitment to stand in solidarity with workers and the people’s movement to achieve sweeping social reforms and build a society that respects labor.
