The Korean Council participates in the Korea–Japan Reconciliation and Peace Platform, which was launched in July 2020. Since its establishment, the Platform has engaged in a wide range of solidarity activities addressing historical issues between Korea and Japan, promoting the peace process on the Korean Peninsula, defending Japan’s pacifist constitution, and advocating for denuclearization and disarmament in East Asia.
As part of its engagement with the Platform, the Korean Council took part in the following Steering Committee–related activities.
On Thursday, November 13, the Korean Council hosted its annual appreciation gala at the Seoul Women’s Plaza. The event offered an opportunity to express gratitude to supporters and partner organizations while reaffirming the significance of solidarity. Following the event, an informal exchange session was held at the Korea–Japan Platform level, further strengthening mutual understanding and solidarity.
On Friday, November 14, the Joint Steering Committee convened to reflect on the Platform’s activities over the past five years and discuss future directions and plans. Later that evening, a public forum titled “Northeast Asian Geopolitics, Korea–Japan Relations, and Peace on the Korean Peninsula” was held. Through presentations by Nahoko Hishiyama and Hee-kyo Kim, participants examined the current regional situation and engaged in collective discussion on the challenges and tasks for peace.
On Saturday, November 15, participants took part in a study tour, visiting relevant sites to observe conditions on the ground and to reflect on the meaning and impact of their shared activities.
The Korean Council remains committed to strengthening transnational civil society solidarity and to working together toward historical justice, peace, and demilitarization in East Asia.
