Tuesday, January 28, marks the 6th year of the passing of halmoni Kim Bok-dong. On January 23, activists from the Korean Council visited the National Mang-Hyang Cemetery to show their respects to over fifty halmonis and spend time in remembrance. This year, as the day of 6th year coincided with the Lunar New Year, the journey felt like making a holiday visit to the halmonis. The weather was not too cold, as if the halmonis were warmly welcoming the activists.
The activists offered drinks and food at the gravesites, quietly paying respects. Believing that the halmonis had watched over and supported the activists throughout the past year, they hoped for continued strength and guidance in the coming Eulsa Year. During their previous visit, the activists had placed yellow butterfly stickers on the halmonis’ tombstones, and this time, they followed the butterflies, offering flowers and remembering each halmoni’s name one by one.
It was a meaningful moment for the activists to reaffirm their commitment to honoring the halmonis’ legacy. May all the halmonis resting at the National Mang-Hyang Cemetery find eternal peace.
