From June 19 to August 2, a special exhibition titled “International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict X Butterfly Fund” is being held on the first floor of the War and Women's Human Rights Museum. This exhibition was organized to amplify the voices of the victim-survivors of the Japanese military sexual slavery, who called for the end of sexual violence in conflict.
The exhibition sheds light on the background and significance of the designation of the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict, as well as the founding and activities of the Butterfly Fund, which was established on March 8, 2012, by ideas of late Kim Bok-dong and Gil Won-ok—survivors and women's human rights activists—who dreamed of a world without war. It also highlights examples of international solidarity supported by the Butterfly Fund in countries such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, Vietnam, and Palestine.

Through this exhibition, the Korean Council aims to raise awareness about the ongoing issues of war and sexual violence in conflict, and to convey the courage and solidarity of survivors. The exhibition features video testimonies from survivors, archival materials related to the Butterfly Fund from the War and Women’s Human Rights Museum, documents from IGOs, and additional programs scheduled to take place.
This exhibition serves as a meaningful opportunity to reaffirm the determination of global citizens who strive for peace and the resolution of the Japanese military sexual slavery issue.
