The 40th Korean Women’s Conference

Seoul, March 8 — The Korean Council for Justice and Remembrance for the Issues of Military Sexual Slavery by Japan (hereafter the Korean Council) took part in the 40th Korean Women’s Conference, held in Seoul to celebrate International Women’s Day. This year’s rally highlighted the voices and history of women who have led Korea’s democratic and gender justice movements.

The Korean Council operated a vibrant and engaging booth that drew strong interest from the public. Featured activities included a sticker poll titled “Produce 101: Obstacles to Solving the Japanese Military Sexual Slavery Issue” and a slogan-making station called “Design Your Historical Justice Picket.” These programs offered participants an opportunity to reflect on unresolved historical issues and express their hopes for justice.

Public response to the booth was enthusiastic, with all 1,300 prepared stickers being used. Citizens expressed how difficult it was to choose just one obstacle, with some commenting, “It’s too hard to choose—they’re all serious offenders,” and “There are so many bad actors—I need more stickers.” The placard station was also a success, as participants filled boards with powerful and heartfelt slogans, demonstrating deep engagement with the topic of historical justice.

The Korean Council also unveiled its new <Fiercely> handkerchief at the event, which received considerable attention and support from attendees.

This year’s rally shed light on the continuing leadership of women in Korea’s democratic struggles, particularly in the wake of the declaration of martial law in December 2024. Women have emerged as key agents of change, their voices and solidarity playing a vital role in the push for justice and reform.

The Korean Council reaffirmed its commitment to amplifying women’s voices in a male-dominated society and to ensuring that their stories of resistance and resilience are remembered and honored throughout history.
