On November 26, the press conference "The Disaster Caused by Yoon Suk-yeol's Humiliating Diplomacy! Condemn Incomplete Sado Mine Memorial!" was held in front of the president's office.
On November 24, the "Sado Mine Memorial" was held in the Sado Mine in Japan. The memorial was one of the follow-up measures that the Japanese government promised to take when the mine was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July. The Yoon Suk-yeol administration has touted this as a diplomatic achievement.
However, the memorial was a showy, hastily organized event where it was not even clear who the memorial was for. The host organization was also the private organization, " The Sado Mine Memorial Ceremony Executive Committee," and the Japanese government did not officially host it. Moerover, the representative sent by the Japanese government, Akiko Ikuina, was a person with a history of visiting Yasukuni Shrine, and there was not a single word about forced mobilization in her eulogy. This is nothing short of an act of insulting and humiliating the citizens, including the victims of forced mobilization who were taken away and sacrificed during World War II.
The memorial was the worst diplomatic disasater caused by the humiliating diplomacy of the Yoon Suk-yeol administration. However, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said, “We will continue to communicate with the Japanese government to hold a sincere memorial service,” while leaving room for attendance at the memorial service to be held next year.
In response, the Korean Council and the Civil Solidarity for Historical Justice and Peaceful Relationship between Korea and Japan held the press conference. Both organizations urges Yoon Suk-yeol administration to apologize to the victims of forced mobilization.
