On May 1st, in celebration of May Day (International Workers Day, Labour Day), the Korean Council joined the 2025 May Day Rally held near Sungnyemun in central Seoul. The rally was organized under the powerful slogans: “Eradicate Anti-Democratic Forces! Win Fundamental Labor Rights! Achieve True Social Reform!” Thousands of workers and citizens came together, united in the call for a just and equitable society.

In solidarity with the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) and the workers who have led the movement to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol and advance sweeping social reforms, the Korean Council took to the streets alongside them.

The issue of the Japanese military sexual slavery remains a concern for the International Labour Organization (ILO), which has consistently urged the Japanese government to resolve the matter. This ongoing international advocacy has only been possible thanks to the unwavering efforts of workers and activists around the world.

Survivors of Japanese military sexual slavery endured not only sexual violence and exploitation within the so-called “comfort stations,” but also forced labor such as chores under military supervision. Even today, many workers—especially women—continue to suffer from sexual exploitation in their workplaces.

The Korean Council participated in the rally as both workers and fellow citizens of resistance, standing in solidarity to bridge past and present struggles.

We remain committed to leading the way toward true social reform—fighting for justice, dignity, and a better world.
